VideoSceneBackground.js
For RPG Maker MZ

VideoMenuBackground is a custom plugin for RPG Maker MZ that allows developers to add dynamic video backgrounds to their game's Scenes.

This plugin enhances the visual appeal of your game's first impression by replacing the background of your menu scenes.

Features:

Looping Video Background

  • Displays a continuously looping video behind various menu scenes (Menu, Equip, Status, Item, Skill, Options, Shop, Game End).

Simple Setup

  • Provide a filename (without .mp4 extension) in each scene’s parameter, plus an opacity (0.0–1.0).
  • The plugin automatically hides the default RPG Maker background if a video is specified.

Custom Scenes

  • Define additional scene/video/alpha entries in the “Custom Scenes” parameter.
  • Perfect for new or plugin-defined scenes (e.g., Scene_MyCustom).

Autoplay-Friendly

  • Videos are muted by default, which allows modern browsers to autoplay them without user interaction.
  • Files should be placed in the movies/ folder.

Lightweight and Clean

  • Each scene’s video sprite is created on demand and cleaned up when exiting the scene, minimizing resource usage.
  • No extra dependencies—works out-of-the-box with a standard RPG Maker MZ project.

How to use:

  1. Place the VideoSceneBackground.js file in your project's js/plugins folder
  2. Activate the plugin in the RPG Maker MZ Plugin Manager
  3. Add your video file to the game's movies folder
  4. Configure the plugin parameters to set your desired video

Wow! Awesome plugin! I just bought it, alongside the bundle, and it works perfect!

Do you have any plans for working in more plugins in the future?

P.S Hopefully you reach your goal :)

Hey! Thanks so much for your support and kind words—I really appreciate it!

I’m already working on some  new plugins and have some prototypes.

Do you have any ideas or features in mind you’d love to see next? (For this Plugin or a new one)

Let me know! 😊

I'm glad you appreciate my comment! And yeah I have a few ideas that may as well be good to see in rpg maker, such as:

  1. -Being able to show videos before the title screen shows. Just like the games in the 90's just to have. Also, it be cool if it have a feature that allow you to replay the video after a few seconds past and you don't press star, again like the videogames did back in the old days hehe
  2. -Another idea, but this one is very different from the types of plugins you did, is to make enemies and actors to have animations during battle. I don't know if is it is a possibility to do in RPG Maker MZ. However, there is a game called "Fear and Hunger" who does that, and it was made with RPG Maker MV, so I think it can be done with MZ too.

Well, sorry to take so long to answer and if my ideas may be too complicated to do, but these are some features that I really like to see in roleplay games and I haven't found plugins that makes that.

Anyway, hope you have a great day and rest of the week. Peace and love :)

I'm noticing the video reloads between scenes even if the video file is the same. Is there a way to avoid this, as it creates some screen 'flash' between scenes? It looks pretty bad when you're not lingering in scenes.

edit: a scene enter/exit will also be nice but that's a different aspect entirely

Good point! I’ve just released an update to the plugin that ensures the same video isn’t reloaded between scenes, eliminates any flashing, and adds a optional fade‑effect parameter you asked for. Let me know if it works for you!

Is it possible to add this to custom made scenes too?

Yes it is possible!

Look for the next update soon.

:)

I added the option for custom scenes! :)
